A sold-out crowd of over 400 gathered at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C. for a charity dinner and roast to honor Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, noted scientist and environmentalist. The May 5, 2009 event brought together ambassadors, Hollywood celebrities, senior Obama administration officials, and leaders in the business and academic communities. Comedian, actor and environmentalist Chevy Chase served as a spirited master of ceremonies for the evening. Featured speakers included: Teresa Heinz, Founder and Vice Chair of the Heinz Center; Tom Brokaw, NBC News; Time Wirth, former Senator and President of the U.N. Foundation; Bruce Babbitt, former Department of Interior Secretary; Ellen Futter, President of the American Museum of Natural History; Russell Train, the first Chair of the Council of Environmental Quality and Chairman Emeritus of and former President of World Wildlife Fund; and Senator John Kerry A special video message from former Vice President Al Gore Jr. was also presented during the dinner.
