Flood Protection Alternatives for the Lower Basin of the Tempisque River
In May 2000, the Heinz Center conducted a
workshop in cooperation with the Organization of Tropical Studies to discuss flood
protection alternatives for the Tempisque River basin. The Heinz Center brought a panel of
U.S. experts to Costa Rica knowledgeable in the effects of large dams on rivers, water
resource economics, aquatic ecology, sociology, geomorphology and water law to work with
experts from Costa Rica at a 3-day workshop.
The results of the workshop are documented in the Perspectives for the Integrated Management of The Tempisque River Basin, Costa Rica, issued in Spanish and English.
