Robert Corell Addresses Alaska Forum on the Environment

Heinz Center Global Change Program Director Robert Corell traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to deliver one of seven keynote addresses at the Alaska Forum on the Environment.  Dr. Corell opened the session on "Climate Change in the Artic," along with Elaine Abraham, an Alaska Native Elder, Joel Scheraga of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Rabbi Warren G. Stone of the Central Conference of American Rabbis Committee on the Environment.

The Alaska Forum on the Environment was initially formed as an organization to support an annual educational event. The Forum began in 1990 as the Alaska Federal Facility Environmental Roundtable as an annual conference focused on contaminants, hazardous waste cleanup, hazardous materials management, pollution prevention, etc. at federal facilities. The Alaska Forum works to promote a more productive and efficient relationship between government agencies, businesses, organizations, tribes and the public by: (i) developing a more common understanding and educational foundation; (ii) providing opportunity for the exchange of information and experiences; and (iii) understanding the diversity of opinions and concerns of others.

The Alaska Forum on the Environment is now attended annually by over 1600 participants, including upwards of 600 leaders from native indigenous villages across Alaska.  For more information please visit: www.akforum.com
